Terms of Use
Last Updated: June 16, 2025
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing and using Pluto Time Calculator (plutotimecalculator.com), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use. If you do not agree with any part of these terms, you must not use the website. These terms apply to all visitors, users, and others who access or use the service. We reserve the right to update these terms at any time, and your continued use of the site constitutes acceptance of any changes.
2. Description of Service
Pluto Time Calculator is a free, educational astronomy tool that calculates the approximate moment each day when ambient light on Earth matches the brightness of noon on Pluto. The service uses solar position algorithms based on geographic coordinates and date to determine when the Sun reaches approximately -1.5° below the observer's horizon. Results are provided for informational and educational purposes only.
3. Permitted Use
You may use Pluto Time Calculator for personal, educational, and non-commercial purposes. You agree not to:
- Use the service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable laws.
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any systems or networks connected to the service.
- Use automated scripts, bots, or scrapers to extract data in bulk without prior written consent.
- Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the service.
- Reproduce, duplicate, or exploit any portion of the service for commercial purposes without express permission.
4. Intellectual Property
All content on Pluto Time Calculator — including text, graphics, logos, icons, design elements, code, and the underlying algorithms — is the intellectual property of Pluto Time Calculator or its licensors and is protected by international copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. The "Pluto Time" concept was originally developed by NASA and is used here in an educational context. NASA content used as reference is in the public domain; however, our specific implementation, design, and original content remain our property.
5. Accuracy Disclaimer
While we strive for high accuracy in our solar position calculations, Pluto Time Calculator provides estimates based on mathematical models. Results may vary due to atmospheric conditions, local terrain, altitude differences, and the inherent precision limits of the algorithms used. The calculated times should be treated as close approximations (typically within ±1–2 minutes of actual conditions). We do not guarantee the absolute accuracy of any calculation and recommend cross-referencing with professional astronomical tools for critical applications.
6. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Pluto Time Calculator, its creators, contributors, and affiliates shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of profits, or business interruption, arising out of your access to or use of (or inability to use) the service. The service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
7. Third-Party Services
Pluto Time Calculator may use third-party services for geocoding, analytics, and hosting. These services have their own terms and privacy policies. We use the browser's Geolocation API for location detection (with your explicit permission) and may reference external geocoding services to resolve city names to coordinates. We are not responsible for the accuracy, availability, or practices of any third-party services integrated into our platform.
8. User-Submitted Content
If you submit content through our contact form or any other means, you grant Pluto Time Calculator a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, and display such content in connection with operating and improving the service. You represent that you own or have the necessary rights to submit such content and that it does not violate any third-party rights.
9. Modifications to Service
We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any aspect of the service at any time without prior notice or liability. This includes changes to features, calculation methods, design, or availability. We may also impose limits on certain features or restrict access to parts or all of the service without notice.
10. Governing Law
These Terms of Use shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable laws, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from or relating to these terms or the use of the service shall be resolved through good-faith negotiation. If a resolution cannot be reached, disputes shall be submitted to binding arbitration in accordance with applicable arbitration rules. If any provision of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.
